FS 2002 Tips
Display settings.
1. All the settings are connected directly to the frame rate. Even older video cards can give acceptable frame rates with medium to high selections. Only anti-aliasing in hardware option cause very low frame rates, i.e. in my PC it caused a reduction from 15 to 6 fps.
2. High resolutions are not a big problem if your CPU is a fast one.
3. Color reduces the frames, but not to much. From 16 to 32 reduces about 3 fps.
The autopilot issue
As was stated in most of the discussions about the issue, FS2002 has a more accurate, realistic autopilot. So if you want to fly as real as possible, use it as it is.
1. Be careful that the auto throttle is not disengaged together with the autopilot. So disengaging the autopilot i.e. during the finals, keeps the autothrottle engaged.
2. It is now easier to fly the plane using the autopilot, as it is supposed to be. Try to do it, even though it is not so fun.
Plane and panels
They are not working as in Fs2000. The idea is completely different. So try to use panels and planes especially designed for FS2002. Fortunately we have Do228, ATR72 and B734 for FS2002 available, especially due to the efforts of Maximos Sevastopoulos, an exceptional OAv member.
1. Further more you can find .air and .cfg files in the aircraft\templates folder for some of the most commonly used airplane types. Altering those a little you can get close to the behavior and the numbers you want. Using the model and the textures from the FS98 or the FS2000 planes you can end up with a FS2002 plane.
2. Few of the FS2000 and FS98 panels are working correctly with FS2002. Try to use the default panels or the new, especially designed for FS2002. There are some very good, even though most are bellow average for the time being. Avoid new gauges for now, because many of them are not working properly.
Scenery
1. Greek airfields and Greek navaids are compatible with FS2002 in their last edition. The same applies for the LGAV scenery. As far as I know the Greek Mesh Scenery for FS2000 is not compatible yet with FS2002.
2. Unfortunately new airports, as LGAV, are not supported by the ATC facility of FS2002. The system could not recognize them.
3. The ATC system, together with the flight planner, cannot take into account the real world elevations. So if you plan a flight that has a cruising altitude that conflicts with the mountains that you pass, the planner will accept it and the ATC will force you to keep that altitude. If you ignore the ATC, the IFR flight plan will close and you have to get the situation in your hands. This is realistic, but a flight plan that runs through the mountains is not.
4. Selecting an airport, usually you can select except the runways, parking positions to start from.
FSUIPC
Try all the possible settings, to see how they are working together with your PC. No ready solutions are useful. Try not to overload the settings.
Those tips will be available in WORD format in the files section of OAv’s list, under the name FS2002tips. If anyone has a tip to add, please send it to OAv@europe.com and it will added as soon as possible.
